The weekend has landed! It’s time for a pit stop.
Kick off your shoes. Put the kettle on. Take a minute to breeathe deeply and feel your rib cage expand. Stand up, sit down, move, stop. Whatever: just do the opposite of what you’ve spent your entire week doing.
Turn your phone off. Completely. Relax your shoulders, rub your temples and smile widely. Even if you don’t feel like smiling, think of something or someone who puts that grin on your face.
Look at the sky – what’s it doing today? Are the clouds scuttling along, rushing to where they need to be, like you? Or are they trundling along at a slower pace? Are they dark and heavy or light and fluffy? Just watch them for a minute while you brew your tea or percolate your coffee. If you feel knotted inside, try and let it go. If you feel a warm glow, hold on to it and revel, revel, revel. Keep breathing. In and out.
Think back to your greatest achievements of the week. Big and small it doesn’t matter. I bet they are many and varied. What was your single most happy moment? Write it down. Give yourself a hug – you deserve it – and tell yourself you are awesome. Because you are. You really are. For all these reasons and many more.
“Feelings come and go like clouds in a windy sky. Conscious breathing is my anchor.” Thich Nhat Hanh, Vietnamese Buddhist monk
